A BEAUTIFUL SHORT STORY OF UNSELFISH LOVE
I found this children's book to be a beautiful short story of unselfish love of a child for his parents. It is also a great adventure, with a big reward at the end. something very appealing to anyone who remembers their vivid imagination as a child.

The illustrations in this book have a feeling of warmth and home. It takes me back to the comfort of my own childhood.

If you want your child to remember a good Christmas Story I recommend," GUSSIE'S CHRISTMAS STORY", by Robert L. Jackson

Sincerely,

E. Thompson NYC.NY

Handloggers
Published in Paperback by Alaska Northwest Books (June, 1974)
Author: W. H. Jackson
Average review score:

Delight to the nature-lover grounded in reality
The information on handlogging is surpassed by descriptions of the places the Jacksons visited on their boat and their many encounters with wildlife--from mice to mountain sheep, deer and bears. It is told with warmth. The relationship between man and wife and their support of one another leaves you always wishing for their success as they face the Alaska wilderness.

An excellent portrayal of life in Southeast Alaska
"Handloggers" captures the not-so-long-ago life in Southeast Alaska. As a resident of Ketchikan and someone who works in Misty Fiords National Monument (where much of this book takes place), I found this book to be an excellent portrayal of our history -- both natural and cultural. Many of the areas remain as Jackson describes, and evidence of handlogging abounds. This book brought it all to life for me and really gave meaning to the history of these areas. A must-read for anyone interested in Alaskan life or anyone visiting the Ketchikan area!

super book
This is a super book. It paints life as a logger in Alaska, bordering the cold, clear bay waters. Logger Jackson often works alone, and always the work is dangerous. I loved the book

Intimacies
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Kensington Pub Corp (Mass Market) (August, 2000)
Author: Lisa Jackson
Average review score:

A book you'll regret missing...
Cassidy Buchanan was always in the shadows compared to her older half sister, Angie. Though it bothered her mother, it never bothered Cassidy, who was content to stay out of the light that Angie thrived under. All Cassidy cared about were her horses and her freedom. At sixteen, she was gawky and gangly, still coming into her woman's body. All her feelings changed that summer when Brig McKenzie started work on her father's ranch. At nineteen, Brig was everything in a boy that fascinated Cassidy. He was a rebel of the highest order, never caring what anyone thought. Soon she realizes that her and her sister wanted the same boy, but for different reasons.

Brig McKenzie only wanted to do his job. He was warned on his first day on the job to stay away from the Buchanan girls. Though no one knew it, it was Cassidy that fascinated him and Cassidy he dreamed about at night. He knew that the older one had her own agenda, and he didn't trust her at all. He knew Cassidy was trouble because she was so young, but he couldn't stay away from her. Then a devestating fire swept through the sawmill that was owned by the Buchanans that Brig knew he'd be blamed for. With help from the person he least expected, Brig left and never expected to be back.

Now seventeen years later another fire brings the same questions that haunted everyone all those years before. Who was responsible? Cassidy now has a husband who seems to hate her and a man that no one can identify on the verge of death. The questions haunt her. Why was her husband and this stranger at the mill? And who started the fire. Jackson doesn't dissapoint readers with this complex tale of betrayal and love. Jackson always brings more characters than the main ones, some who we love, some who we hate.

Don't miss it!

Suspense At Every Turn and Until the End
Great suspense novel as well as great romance. Well defined and likeable characters. The relationship between Cassidy and Brig was one to remember. The secondary characters like Angie and Chase are great too! I never guess who was behind all the fires until the very end--great work!

This is my first but not my last Lisa Jackson book
After reading the first 100 or so pages, I figured I just had a very good romance novel, and then all of a sudden the action started. Ms. Jackson kept me guessing until the very end on who the culprit was. This was a very good romance/mystery and I would recommend it highly.

Some Knowledge
Thank you for writing the book Investing In The Dream.. My girlfriend insisted I read it and i am glad she did. Although I had some knowledge of investing your book made it so much clearer. I feel better able to prepare myself for retirement. THANK YOU!!!!! Denise M. Bagby

Single Mom
I read your Book and read your columns. The latest column "Financial decisions" featured in The Challenger Newspaper is great. I am a single mother, fulltime employee as well as a parttime college student; I definitely know first hand how expensive it is to raise children. Your book has made the difference.

The Light is on Now
I waited for the book to come out in paper back. That was my first mistake. --what a shame on my part. However, thanks to The Miami Times newspaper where I see your column, I must say that I have been enlightened and inspired by your indispensible information.

Michael Jackson's Great Beers of Belgium
Published in Paperback by Running Press (September, 1998)
Author: Michael Jackson

If this is Heaven, it must be Belgium.
I've loved Belgian beers for years, but never truly understood them fully until now. Where do you begin to classify them? To choose one to drink? Michael Jackson shows you how. From the ancient beginning of the brewing of Belgian beer, to now, as you smell, taste, and swallow, Michael Jackson takes you through the process. This is education in the most delightful way. Great photographs, delightful anecdotes,You almost feel you are on a stool beside him. My wife, who is Belgian born, loved the insights into her native land and traditions. If you can only buy one book on beer, this must be it!

Yum!
This is a great book if you love belgian beer. So many great pictures and chapters to browse through on a cold winter night by the fire with a bottle of aged Westmalle tripel or perhaps a Kwak. Very thorough, he obviously spent a lot of time "researching" his topic!

Belgian Beer Bible
Michael Jackson belies his English heritage to write perhaps the best Belgian beer book in existance. More than just tasting notes, he describes his visits to the breweries, his discussions with the brewers, the smells, the sounds, everything you need to feel like you are there! A prized addition to any library.

Mrs. Piccolo's Easy Chair
I found the book imaginative and my three children as well as myself absolutely adored the illustrations. Hats off to the writer as well as the illustrator. Well done.

Mrs. Piccolo's Easy Chair
A hilarious story with wonderful illustrations. A real work of art.

A+ Story
My 3yr old daughter and I enjoyed the story line as well as the vivid colors. It is difficult to keep her interested but this book does the trick. Some words in the book have to be explained but the growing mind of a child has nothing but to prosper from this. Keep them coming Jean, Thank you.

Never Too Late : A Prosecutor's Story of Justice in the Medgar Evars Case
Published in Hardcover by Scribner (07 January, 2001)
Author: Bobby DeLaughter
Average review score:

Thought provoking wonderful narrative
Bobby Delaughter was a prosecutor of the right timbre, morals, and courage at the right time to help bring justice in a 30-year old murder case. This riveting book tells how, in the face of extreme odds, his faith was brought to the forefront, to show that God really does care and uses people such as Delaughter to produce what He desires most - justice. In this book, we see not only a story of Mississippi's catharsis in turning from a place of race-baiting politicians and of organized Ku Klux Klanism to a place where justice can truly be done, but also a story of the touching emotional struggle of the victims and prosecutors alike. As prosecutors face great opposition from not only racists and self-seeking politicians, but also from well-meaning but skeptical black and white citizens and even an arrogant FBI, they rise above the ordinary at great personal and political cost. As an attorney, I coined the phrase, "sometimes truth is very hard to come by." This story embodies that principle. The efforts of Mr. Delaughter and his D.A. boss should be applauded and lauded as a great triumph, not just for the machinery and tools of this great country's ever-grinding legal system, for they are but lifeless concepts apart from the souls that man their stations, but also for those with virtue and conscience, who are the fuel and oil without which there would be no production of justice.

Justice delayed but thankfully not denied.
I had been interested by the story of Medgar Evers and the difficulty the state had in prosecuting his alleged killer for some time. When the State of Mississippi reopened the case for a potential third attempt at prosecution I was hopeful that some sense of justice might be achieved but not at all convinced that the then alleged killer would be found guilty of Medgar Evers' murder. Bobby De Laughter has written an insightful, thoughtful and intriguing book. As I read his account of the various threads of the story, the leads the DA's office had to develop to prosecute this case after so many years and the elements of good fortune that allowed this case to be pursued successfully I could not help but feel the presence of Medgar Evers. The goodness of the man and his persistent quest for justice is echoed in the actions of Mr. De Laughter, Ms. Myrlie Evers, the many dogged investigators and committed professionals who played their part in making the third trial come together.

This is a great read, so compelling I could not put it down. In many ways this book reads like a mystery. So much of what was needed to prepare the case against Byron De La Beckwith was lost during the long period between the killing and the final trial. Twice shut out, the stakes couldn't have been higher for the prosecution in this third outing. The book is no less suspenseful because the verdict is known. Although an intensely personal account, Mr. DeLaughter clearly and consicely explains the legal hurdles the prosecution faced and incisively analyzes the behavior and motivations of the defendant. Mr. De Laughter is widely descibed as very private, but in his writing he and his experience are so accessible the reader feels as if s/he is there every step of the way. This is an intelligent and inspiring work that should not be missed.

Justice in Mississippi
Then Assistant District Attorney (now Judge) DeLaughter helps do much to portray modern day Mississippi as it is, and dispel the hackneyed and narrow minded portrayals of the state as the last great bastion of racism. Judge DeLaughter is modern Mississippi, with an unwavering sense of justice, fairness, and a dedication to bring the guilty to trial. A movie was made regarding this incident, but this succinct and well written book lends such a better understanding that it must be recommended even if one has seen the movie. This is the face of modern Mississippi, and of this we are proud.

A Homeland For Eric

Untitled Praise
The book "A homeland for Eric" By Ramsey Jackson was a wonderful novel that I was upset to finish. It was so good that I had to read it all in one sitting, which was no chore. It kept me turning the pages, and I found myself relating to one of the characters before I realized it. It is a novel that expresses the importance of family, and life that is often taken for granted. It made me question my values and look at things in a different perspective. I recommend this novel to anyone who is interested in a parable that will help them direct and balance their realtions with their loved ones and their careers. Though I have currently read it only once, this story will be a beacon for me throught my career, helping me focus on what is really important in life.

"I read this book for Biology class"
When I finsh reading this book it really interest me. This book really touches the readers thoughts and feelings. It has romance, drama, little bit of comedyand more. When I'm half done reading finishing the book, I felt that I didn't want to stop reading because I want to learn of whats going to happen next. I would really recomend this book to anyone because Its a powerful book and for me a pretty rare book, I would recomend a reader to buy this book.

Review: A Homeland For Eric
1)Later in the story when Eric's family was in Africa, he decided to go to his friend Ost to crossover and he chose to leave his family for the trip. Later the thing that really happen to Eric is he was very illed and he died.

2)The impact that the scientific careers have upon the family is Eric's dad doesn't have time for his family especially his sister Nees. So the dad make it up to his family that they will go to Africa with him for his research since he is anthropologist.

3)The microscope observation that Eric should do before he ate the meat is to check if there is dirty stuff in it like maggots for example. Also he should of ckeck the meat if its fresh or not because the meat can be rotten and he should smell it if its good enough to eat the meat.

Integrated Physics and Calculus, Volume 1
Published in Paperback by Pearson Addison Wesley (November, 1999)
Authors: Andrew F. Rex and Martin Jackson
Average review score:

Very good book
This book is 1 of 2 which make a set. These two books are good as they are presented in black and white with a systematic layout. This is a great step away from normal university textbooks which are rehashed constantly, due to the commercialism which permeates our society, making them convoluted at times and full of irrelevant text and colorful images etc. Most of these textbooks shouldn't be allowed in our classrooms. This book didn't get five stars as some concepts and examples don't have relevant graphs and models presented which would make learning easier (especially the formulation of the surface integral). All in all this is the best calculus/physics book I've found so far. It is important to download the errata as some mistakes are present within: ...

A brilliant narration to a most exquisite topic
The authors of this book have skillfully combined insightful explanations with equally wonderfully examples. This book is excellent for those with little mathematical background interested in exploring the world of physics. The authors keep the reader entertained by maintaining a conversional tone, and a light-hearted spirit. Their love for the material radiates from each and every page.
This should be a required text for every college physics class. All to often are there students with missing pieces floating around in their heads. Other physics text books will tend to skip over the mathematical background to the topics, as not to repeat material for some students, or scare away others. This book not only excites an interest in the physical world around us, but the mathematical language of nature as well.

Previous Math/Physics Dropout
I found the subject matter elucidating. Refreshingly complete, the books properly integrate physics and calculus the way they were meant to be. Neither field stands alone; they enjoy a wonderful symbiotic relationship. Thanks to authors Jackson and Rex, this relationship is defined in real world terms. Highly recommended for all college level students and especially helpful for the math/physics majors.
